I have the honour to refer to my mission of good offices in Cyprus .

          Further to my letter of 5 December 2001 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2001/1182), I should like to draw your attention to the fact that efforts related to the mission will continue in 2003.

          In furtherance of the mission entrusted to me, which includes consultations in the region as well as with various capitals, my Special Adviser on Cyprus, Mr. Alvaro de Soto, will continue to be assisted by a small team, as required.

          I should be grateful if you would bring the present letter to the attention of the members of the Security Council and emphasize the importance which I attach to their support in discharging this mission.
